Unauthorized Model Switching & Fraudulent Charges
Hi Chris,
Thank you for finally acknowledging the truth: Cursor silently and automatically hijacked my model settings to Grok without my consent.
However, offering a $100 credit on an $800+ forced drain is offensive. Is $100 really the price of Cursor's reputation?
Let’s be clear about what actually happened here:
- You admitted to a critical breach of UI trust. Your platform systematically changed my settings in the background. Once an application secretly alters user preferences to force high-cost routing, the entire billing session becomes compromised.
- The "Auto" defense is a loophole. Claiming that the majority of charges occurred under "Auto" is deflection. The system had already proven it ignores user intent and silently overrides choices. How can I trust how "Auto" routed or evaluated cost when the core preference engine was actively glitching/overriding settings?
- I raised spend limits because the app was failing/draining. I was forced to raise limits under the false assumption that my chosen economy setup was simply consuming normal tokens for complex tasks — unaware that your software was running unapproved high-tier background routing.
You took $800+ out of my pocket through predatory updates and broken configuration logic. Handing back $100 while keeping $700 of wrongfully extracted funds is unacceptable.
I am not looking for "tips" on how to toggle settings to protect myself from your own updates. I am demanding a full refund of the money drained during this compromised period.
If Cursor values its developer community and reputation, you will refund the full remaining balance ($700+). Otherwise, this detailed admission along with the full usage audit and logs will be made public across developer forums, X/Twitter, and Trustpilot as a warning about Cursor’s billing practices.
I expect this to be escalated to management for a full refund.
Best regards,
Yevhen
